Anchor Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-08-15

Overview

Anchor exists to protect your attention, not to harvest it. This policy explains exactly what the app observes, where that data lives, and what never happens.

Data we collect

We do not collect your personal data. Anchor has no server, no account system, no analytics, no crash reporting, and zero third-party SDKs. The app makes no network requests of its own. Its Apple privacy manifest declares no tracking.

What Anchor observes on your Mac

To classify your activity as work or distraction, the Mac app reads:

  • The name of the frontmost application
  • The title of the active window
  • The URL of your active browser tab (via the optional browser extension, or Apple Events for Safari, Chrome, Arc, Brave, and Edge)

It never reads page content, documents, messages, or emails; it never takes screenshots or records your screen; it does not track your location. Observations are stored locally on your device and are used only to compute your own focus statistics.

What Anchor does on your iPhone

On iOS, Anchor uses Apple’s Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, Managed Settings, Device Activity) to shield the apps and sites you choose. Apple designed these frameworks so that your app selections are opaque tokens — even Anchor cannot read the names of the apps you block. Drift statistics are computed on-device.

Browser extension

The optional browser companion extension sends only the active tab’s URL and title to the Anchor app on your own machine (via native messaging). No page content is read, and nothing is transmitted off your device.

iCloud sync (optional)

Syncing via iCloud is off by default. If you enable it, your data is stored in your personal iCloud account (CloudKit private database) under Apple’s terms — we have no access to it.

Data deletion

Deleting the app removes all locally stored data. If you enabled iCloud sync, remove the app’s data from iCloud settings.

Children’s privacy

Anchor does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date.
